Lip Filler in Hemel Hempstead:
Everything You Need to Know Before You Book
By Dr Rianna, Co-founder of RiKo Aesthetics | Doctor-Led Aesthetics Clinic, Hemel Hempstead
Lip filler is one of the most requested treatments we see at RiKo Aesthetics, and also one of the most misunderstood. If you’ve been thinking about it but holding back because you’re worried about looking overdone, experiencing pain, or ending up with filler that migrates above your lip line, I want to take those fears away one by one.
Here’s the truth. When lip filler is performed well by a doctor who understands anatomy, uses the right product, and respects the individual in front of them, nobody should be able to tell you’ve had it done. They should simply think you look lovely.
I know this because I hear it from our clients regularly. We’ve had clients leave our clinic with 0.5ml of lip filler, only to have their friends pull them aside and ask what they’d done differently. When they revealed they’d had lip filler, their friends genuinely couldn’t believe it and promptly booked appointments of their own. To me, that is the gold standard of a great result.
Our Philosophy: Enhance, Don’t Overdo
At RiKo Aesthetics, our approach to lip filler is built around one core belief: enhance what is already there. We do not create something new.
Every pair of lips is different. They vary in shape, proportion, the relationship between the upper and lower lip, and how they sit in relation to the rest of the face. A great lip filler result works with all of that. It respects your anatomy, your natural shape, and your individual features. It does not impose a generic look onto a face that was never designed to carry it.
This is why we take time during every consultation to assess your lips, not simply in isolation, but as part of your whole face. We discuss what you’d like to achieve, give our honest clinical opinion on what will work best for your anatomy, and agree on a treatment plan together before a single drop of filler is placed.
The result should never announce itself. It should simply make you look like the best, most refreshed version of yourself.

Who Is Lip Filler For?
One of the things I love about lip filler is that it genuinely suits a wide range of clients and concerns. The treatment looks completely different from one person to the next, which is exactly as it should.
Younger clients often come to us wanting a subtle plump or a gentle enhancement of their natural shape. Perhaps they would like a little more definition to the cupid’s bow, a touch more volume in the body of the lip, or simply a little more presence without changing their overall look. For these clients, 0.5ml is often all that is needed, and the results, when placed correctly, are beautifully natural.
Older clients frequently come to us with different concerns. Their lips may have lost volume and definition over time, developed vertical lip lines, or started to thin and turn inwards slightly. For these clients, lip filler is not about creating something dramatic. It is about restoring what was once there: hydration, definition, and the subtle fullness that made their lips feel like their own.
Whatever your age or concern, the starting point is always the same. A conversation about your goals, an honest assessment of your anatomy, and a treatment plan designed entirely around you.
The Product We Use: Revolax
At RiKo Aesthetics, we use Revolax, a premium CE-marked hyaluronic acid dermal filler with an excellent clinical track record and a well-established reputation among leading aesthetic practitioners across the UK.
Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally within the body, meaning it integrates well with your own tissues and is fully reversible if necessary. Revolax is specifically formulated for lip treatments, with a consistency that allows precise, controlled placement while delivering natural-feeling results that move beautifully with the lips.
It also contains lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, within the filler itself. As treatment progresses, the area becomes increasingly comfortable. Combined with the topical numbing cream we apply beforehand, the vast majority of our clients find the experience much easier than they expected.
Addressing Your Concerns: The Honest Answers
“I’m worried I’ll look overdone.”
This is by far the most common concern we hear, and it’s completely understandable given some of the results circulating on social media. However, overfilled lips are not an inevitable consequence of lip filler. They are the result of too much product being placed incorrectly, often during a single appointment.
At RiKo Aesthetics, we never overfill. We work conservatively, respect your anatomy, and will always tell you honestly if we feel your requested outcome would not suit your face. Sometimes the best result comes from less filler than you expected. Having that honest conversation is an important part of being a doctor-led clinic.
“I’m worried about filler migration.”
Filler migration, where filler moves above the lip border and creates a blurred or unnatural appearance, is something many clients worry about. It is a genuine phenomenon, but one that is largely preventable with correct technique and appropriate volumes.
Migration usually occurs when too much filler is placed in a single session, creating pressure that pushes the product beyond its intended position. When the correct amount of filler is placed appropriately, migration is not something you should routinely worry about. This is another reason we take a conservative, anatomy-led approach and recommend gradually building volume across multiple sessions if significant enhancement is your goal.
“Will it hurt?”
Honestly, less than most people expect.
Before treatment begins, we apply a topical numbing cream to the lips and surrounding area, taking the edge off considerably. As treatment progresses, the lidocaine within the Revolax filler provides additional comfort, meaning the area becomes increasingly numb as we work.
Most clients describe the sensation as mild pressure or a slight sting during injection rather than the painful experience they had imagined. We also work at a pace that feels comfortable for you and will always pause if you need a break.
“What about bruising?”
Bruising is possible with any injectable treatment, particularly in the lips because they have an excellent blood supply. Some clients bruise while others do not, but if bruising occurs it typically settles within five to seven days.
For this reason, we recommend avoiding lip filler for at least two weeks before any important event, such as a wedding, celebration, or holiday. We also advise avoiding blood-thinning medications and supplements, including ibuprofen, aspirin, fish oils, and vitamin E where appropriate, as these can increase the likelihood of bruising.
How Long Does Lip Filler Last?
Lip filler results can last for years, although longevity varies depending on your metabolism, lifestyle, and the amount of filler used. At RiKo Aesthetics, we commonly see results lasting 18 months or longer. Many clients also find that future maintenance appointments require less product because the foundation from previous treatments remains.
We always work with clients to achieve their goals gradually. For some people, one treatment is all they ever need. Others, particularly those wishing to build volume naturally over time, benefit from a series of carefully spaced appointments.
At every review, we reassess your results, discuss how you feel about them, and adjust the plan accordingly. This is how beautiful long-term lip filler results are achieved. Not through one appointment, but through a thoughtful ongoing relationship between practitioner and client.
Lip Filler Dissolving: Starting Fresh
Not everyone who visits us for lip filler is starting from scratch. Many clients come to us after treatment elsewhere, sometimes recently and sometimes years earlier, because they are unhappy with the result. Their concerns may include overfilled lips, uneven placement, filler migration, or simply a look that no longer feels right.
For these clients, we offer lip filler dissolving using hyaluronidase, an enzyme that safely and effectively breaks down hyaluronic acid filler. Demand for this treatment continues to grow, and we approach it with exactly the same care and clinical precision as any other procedure.
Dissolving is particularly popular with clients who have been overfilled elsewhere. Many wanted subtle enhancement but ended up with results that no longer reflected who they were. There is absolutely no judgement. Until recently, the aesthetics industry operated with very little regulation, and not every practitioner has the same training, experience, or philosophy regarding natural-looking outcomes.
If you’ve had lip filler you’re unhappy with, dissolving gives you a fresh start. We assess the existing filler, discuss your goals, and create a personalised treatment plan. That may mean dissolving the filler and allowing your lips to return to their natural state, or dissolving before rebuilding with carefully placed filler. Dissolving is generally no more uncomfortable than having filler placed. There may be temporary swelling while the hyaluronidase works, but this usually settles within a few days. We will explain everything fully during your consultation before any treatment takes place.
The RiKo Difference: Doctor-Led Lip Filler in Hertfordshire
Lip filler is one of the most commonly performed aesthetic treatments in the UK, but it is not without risk when performed by someone without the appropriate training and anatomical knowledge. At RiKo Aesthetics, every treatment plan is overseen by a doctor with a thorough understanding of facial anatomy, vascular structures, and the clinical judgement to know exactly where filler should, and should not, be placed.
This is not something to compromise on. The lips have a complex blood supply, and filler placed incorrectly can cause serious complications. Choosing a doctor-led clinic is not simply about achieving a better cosmetic result. It is about protecting your safety.
We are proud to be one of Hertfordshire’s trusted doctor-led aesthetics clinics, welcoming clients from Hemel Hempstead, St Albans, Watford, Berkhamsted, and the surrounding areas. Every client is treated as an individual, with an honest consultation, a bespoke treatment plan, and results designed around their unique anatomy and goals.
